Mercury-Free / Biological Dentistry

For many years the dental treatment of choice was silver fillings or amalgams. What many people don’t know is that amalgam can be up to 50% mercury – and mercury is believed by many to be dangerous.

We at Advanced Dentistry have not placed a mercury amalgam filling in over 20 years.
Dr. Reilly is a member of the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology). The IAOMT is a membership organization for dental, medical and research professionals who seek to promote mercury-free dentistry, and raise the standards of scientific biocompatibility in dental practice.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH MERCURY?   Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to man. For many years it was thought that mercury was locked into fillings and could not escape. Now it has been established beyond doubt that mercury is released from fillings 24 hours a day, in the form of vapor. Vapors are the most toxic form, and the most readily absorbed by the body.

The Environmental Protection Agency first banned mercury in paints in 1991 and designated it as toxic poison that requires extraction filters and high tech disposal . Dental office waste is required to be filtered by special equipment before being disposed in municipal sewage. Unused amalgam must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Understanding how to replace mercury fillings with biocompatible restoration options requires special training and equipment. Dr. Reilly and team follow the mercury removal treatment protocols recommended by the IAOMT - limiting the amount of vapors.
Treatment protocols include:

  • Blood serum test
  • Metal analysis
  • Vitamin flushes
  • Specialized evacuation techniques
  • Post treatment dietary regimen
